We thank the Lord for this beautiful day!  The snow flakes, like the manna, came down once again to Hopiland yesterday.  However, it was so warm the day before that my Polynesian brother, Paul Otoko (from U.S. Center for the World Missions in Pasadena, CA.), and I were able to do weeding out in our backyard for a few hours. Oh, how awful those weeds are!They've managed to thrive in this desertland where hardly anything else can survive. In my garden, I have a sign that says "all my weeds are my wildflowers". It is really a lie.

As the Hopi are turning to Christ, we're now faced with certain matters with much greater degree.  One is the issue of their "Masao" the god of the underworld and death in Hopiland.  Some say that he is Jesus.  However, Masao has been depicted as a scary, bloody figure and all the children are scared to death of him.  Most old Christians will say that he is really Satan.  To make things even more confusing, it is told and also written in books that there are TWO Masaos- one that poor and humble and the other who was rich and evil.   Our friend who believes that Masao is the same as Jesus challenges us to think of Jesus as in the "Passion" film who was bloody and bruised with thorns on his head and that people are scared of Masao because they should have the "fear of God." This is a matter which needs much prayer.

Yet another katchina mask has come off during the dance this month, this being the fourth mask to come off!  Apparently, a katchina was on his way into the plaza with many others when he lost his balance and stumbled and the mask fell off. The Hopi people must wonder for their prophesy is told that when a mask comes off that their religion will die and that they will then go into the churches. There were five different night katchina dances this past weekend.  Contrary to what may seem as though the culture is getting stronger, this is showing that the Hopi ways are deteriorating.  In the old days, there were fewer dances which were done in a orderly and humble manner.  Our Hopi sister says that the time is coming when she knows that she will no longer be going down into the kiva for the Lord has revealed to her things about her own culture which are no longer as beautiful as they used to be long ago.

However, we're finding that the Lord is raising up mighty warriors who would not be intimidated easily. One Hopi sister said that the kiva was full when she tried to go down during the night dances in her village this past weekend.  No one was willing to make room for her even when she asked because now, she is attending church  But, one of her sisters who was already in the kiva signaled her to go up to the roof and come down the ladder which would bring her down to the middle of the kiva.  So, instead of letting the others intimidate and shun her, she went up to the roof and went down the ladder.  When no one wanted to move their stretched legs to let her pass to find a seat, she sat on a crate which was right in the middle of the kiva. When she saw that yet another sister was at the door way and couldn't get in, she signaled for her to also go up to the roof and come down the ladder.  They both sat and prayed to Jesus that evening for their people.  How wonderful it is when we have the Jacob's letter to find ourselves being able to climb to the throne room of our Heavenly Father and come back down to earth to minister!

This morning, we had a young Hopi man show up for our class. His head was shaven because he said that the Lord spoke to him to do it.  He did not want to do it because, like so many Hopi men, he had long hair almost down to his waist.  But, after a few different dreams from the Lord, he decided to obey and had his brother shave his head. The Lord, then, spoke in his heart that the time is not long like his long hair used to be, but that the time is now short and to REPENT.  We thank the Father who is speaking to His children in Hopiland!

The other day, I found myself in a fetal position and later found myself burrowing my head into Will's chest and sobbing after feeling so hurt and misunderstood. But, I sensed that the Lord was saying that I may be tasting only a portion of  what price our Hopi brothers and sisters are paying in this land.  They feel so misunderstood and accused, and rejected by not just their own traditional people who don't want them to follow Christ, but also by some Christians who believe that they must act like the Europeans in order to be a real Christian. One Christian young man said, "We're not accepted in the kivas and now we're not accepted in the churches.  This is simply because they are playing the native drums to do their praise and worship to the Creator and to His Son, Jesus.

Satan would love to destroy the credibility of the body of Christ, the churches and YWAM etc.  One of our staff gals found two of our Sunday School boys in the act of sexual molestation on the Church ground. It was our duty to report this to CPS (Child Protective Service).  What breaks our hearts and made us weep is that the perpetrator has been one of our most prized Sunday School students whom we've taught for so many years.  We believe that the Lord is the one who has exposed this matter which is so rampant in this land so that He may bring His light and bring healing. How we need your prayers for healing for these two boys (13 & 5 years old) and the whole church and the community as there may be lash-backs on us.

We didn't have as big of a turnout as we had hoped for at the Hopi Civic Center for the Jonathan Maracle and Cheryl Barnettson Concert but still we know that Hopi has once again been impacted for the Kingdom.  Based on the amount of warfare prior, it may have been a significant impact.  We thank Bill & Jan Gowey with Reztoration Ministries for bringing them to Hopiland and letting us co-sponsor the concert by hosting all the guests at YWAM.
